Our primary goal is to work with you to ensure your pet's optimal health. We will perform a thorough physical examination as well as ask several questions on your pet's activity, diet, travel and exposure to other pets. This will help us customize and make individual recommendations for vaccinations, de-worming, flea/heartworm prevention, dental care, routine blood-work and nutrition.
Puppy and Kitten exams
It is so exciting and fun to have a new family member! In addition to ensuring your pet has their vaccinations and necessary de-worming we will make sure we help you with any questions on nutrition, microchips, nail trims and spay/neuter.
For puppies we will review house-training and basic puppy behaviours/manners. For kittens we will review scratch post training and kitten behaviours/play. Our emphasis on helping you with training your puppy or kitten is: rewarding the proper behaviours and prevention of the less desirable behaviours!
Our staff can help your pet with any health concern. These are some of the conditions that we commonly diagnose and prescribe treatment:
- Dermatology (ear and skin infections, anal gland problems allergies)
- Endocrinology (diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, cushing syndrome)
- Gastroenterology (vomiting, diarrhea, pancreatitis, gastritis, enteritis, colitis)
- Urinary/kidney (bladder infections/stones, renal disease
- Ophthalmology (eye infections, dry eye, ulcers, cherry eye)
- Lameness (sprains, joint problems, hip dysplasia)
- Behaviour (house-training, separation anxiety, fear)
Our hospital provides digital radiology(x-ray). This allows us to get very excellent, high quality images to help diagnose several types of conditions. If a referral to a specialist is required this allows much faster and easier transfer of medical information.
In-house laboratory equipment allows our doctors to get results from a pet's blood, urine or fecal sample in a very short time. If your pet is unfortunately ill we can have results for most tests within one hour.
Some of the surgeries we provide our patients include:
- Laceration repair, lump removals, skin biopsies
- Abdominal surgeries including bladder stone removal, foreign body removal from stomach or intestines, intestinal biopsies
Our wellness exams will carefully ensure your pet has good dental health and help you on how best to achieve this with home care. We want to ensure your pet is comfortable while eating or playing with their toys and also ensure that dental disease doesn't lead to more serious heart or kidney problems if the oral bacteria enters the bloodstream.
But even with the best home care and dental foods pets will require dental cleanings and polishing. In cases of diseased teeth we can more thoroughly examine the roots with dental radiographs(x-rays) to determine if we need to proceed with an extraction or a deeper cleaning.
For all surgical and dental procedures monitoring is done continuously by a provincially registered AHT. We monitor heart rate, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, temperature in all of our patients. We also have continuous ECG monitoring if needed. All patients will be on intravenous fluids and on a pain prevention and control protocol. Our patients are monitored very closely after their procedure to ensure they are comfortable.
